Berriedale Farms is located among the Appalachian
Mountains of Virginia in the Cowpasture River Valley, not far from the Maryland border. Our heritage family
farm is arguably the first in the United States to be protected by both
a land and rare breeds conservation easement. The Nature Conservancy
oversees our land conservation best practices. And we closely collaborate
with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy on the protection of rare
breeds of livestock and poultry.
Berriedale Farms core values include:
- Berriedale Farms cattle are born and raised on pastures of native
grasses and legumes.
- Berriedale Farms cattle drink fresh clear water from the same deep
well that serves our farm residence.
- Berriedale Farms treats its animals in
a humane fashion – i.e., we
do not use electric prods or herding dogs, we do use pain killers
during surgery, we transport animals with a companion herd-mate,
and we patronize a certified humane meat processing plant.
- Berriedale Farms does not use commercial fertilizers, nor does
it broadcast spray herbicides, on its pastures.
- Berriedale Farms does not give its cattle chemical pesticides,
growth hormones or antibiotics in feed supplements.
Berriedale Farms will be harvesting eight
(8) pure-bred and hybrid Red Poll, grass-fed and finished beeves during the 2013 season.
We offer four convenient options for buying our tender, juicy and flavorful
grass-fed beef, including: (a) a 100-pound “Quarter” of steaks,
roasts and ground beef; (b) a 25-pound “Urban Wrangler” package
of steaks, roasts and ground beef; (c) a 25-pound “Plowboy Rucksack” of ground beef; and (d) special cuts and organ meat for discriminating cooks.
We deliver by BMW Mini Cooper and ship by
United Parcel Service in a five-state area.

environmentally friendly production methods. We are located in Prince Georges
county, 15 miles east of Washington DC, in the Annapolis/Bowie/Upper Marlboro
area.
We currently offer Woodland Raised Heritage Pork and Pasture Range Chicken and Eggs and will soon be adding Pastured Rabbits and Pastured Turkeys. In 2014, we are planning on adding Cattle, Goat or Sheep. We never use growth
hormones, antibiotics, or implants in any feed supplement provided to our

and we are, too.
We have several options when purchasing our meats and poultry for your freezer
including retail cuts/eggs, CSA shares, and whole/half animals. Check our website

Evensong Farm is a 132 acre farm located in historic Sharpsburg Maryland. We are proud to offer 100% Grass Fed Beef, Woodland Raised Pork and Pasture Range Chicken and Eggs.
Our beef herd is built upon the Red Devon breed, is raised strictly on pasture and hay from our farm, is processed in a Certified Humane facility and is then aged for 18-21 days. Our hogs are primarily Old Spots (with a bit of Berkshire blood mixed in) and are raised on our pastures and in our woods. We give our hogs a custom mixed feed ration that is a balanced mixture of grains and Fertrell Minerals (no medications or antibiotics). They are also processed at a Certified Humane facility where we also make a large variety of sausages for sale. We raise Poulet Rouge and Cornish Cross Chickens for meat and have a multi breed laying flock. Our poultry is raised on pasture within moveable fields and open shelters. We process our poultry both on farm and, occasionally, at a USDA facility.

It's Only Natural Farm, (ION Farm for short), is located in southern MD, approximately 30 minutes south of Washington DC. We raise Texas Longhorn Beef Cattle, Heritage Tamworth Hogs, Layer and Broiler Chickens, Boer Goats, Muscovy Ducks, for sale to the public for meat. We use no hormones, antibiotics, or steroids.
We practice sustainable agriculture, common sense economics, and the 'all natural' raising of livestock. Although we realize the eventuality, we treat our animals as our pets. They reflect this caring in their calm manner and their desire to be petted and rubbed. We employ "Management Intensive Grazing" and the "Leader Follower Program" with all of our animals. As in nature, every animal has a job and serves a purpose in the "all natural" maintenance of the farm.
Our Texas Longhorns are natural foragers and are raised on pasture and in the woods. They are great foragers and eat a larger variety of plants and grasses than many other breeds. In addition they are naturally leaner in fat.
Our Heritage Tamworth pigs are raised on pasture and finished on acorns in our woods, giving the meat a hint of nutty flavor. These pigs produce leaner pork and are known as the 'bacon hog' due to the extra length of their bodies. The Tamworths graze pasture after the cattle, eating what the cattle choose not to and helping the process of turning manure into the ground.
Chevon is gaining popularity by the day. Goat meat is similar in protein with less saturated fat and cholesterol than most meats—even chicken. The taste is very mellow with no game flavor. Our Boer Goats are a part of our "Leader Follower Program." They clean up the fence lines and keep down the weeds.
Our poultry is either free range or in a chicken tractor helping to maintain the pastures. In addition to eating grasses, plants, and bugs, after the other animals are finished, the birds scratch around and mix the manure with the soils to fertilize the farm in an "all natural" manner. Our Eggs, Broiler/Fryer Chickens, and Muscovy Ducks are naturally higher in Omega 3s.
Meat is available by reservation as 1/4, 1/2, and whole beef, 1/2 hog and whole hog, bar-b-que hog, and whole goat. Poultry and fowl are sold by the whole bird.
Beef and pork is processed at a USDA Inspected Facility and vacuum packaged with our farm label, description of the cut, and the weight of the package.
We are a working farm but welcome prospective customers to the farm by appointment.
We are members of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, the Tamworth Swine Association, the American Boer Goat Association, and we support the American Farmland Trust.
We look forward to providing you and your family the freshest in all natural meats.

Mount
Vernon Farm, founded in 1827, utilizes holistic, sustainable,
and humane practices to produce 100% Grass-Fed, Grass Finished Beef,
Lamb, and Pastured Pork.
All of our animals are raised without antibiotics,
growth hormones, or chemical wormers. Our pastures are not treated
with any fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. We treat our animals
homeopathically to promote the health of each animal’s immune
system. Our animals provide the natural fertilizer, aeration,
and mowing that our pastures need. We utilize mob grazing to
promote the health of the soil on Mount Vernon.
Our pigs are all purebred Tamworth, a heritage
breed, and they spend their entire lives on pasture or in our no-spray
apple orchard. A primary goal of the farm is to take a step back
and observe how these animals naturally live and manage them accordingly.
Contact Cliff Miller or Mike Peterson for further
information about our products and practices.
Our on farm store is open Fridays and Saturdays
from 1-5 and we have buyers’ clubs throughout Virginia and
the DC area. Please visit our website or ‘friend’ us

beef.

P. A. Bowen Farmstead is an integrated, 100-acre pasture-based dairy farm that produces raw milk artisan cheeses on-site at our state-of-the-art facility.
Our Jersey dairy cows get about 2 pounds of a NON-GMO grain mix with field peas, containing no soy or corn, with their mineral at milking, which is only once a day. We manage intensive grazing.
We are a seasonal dairy. In addition, the farm produces pastured, soy-free: eggs, poultry, beef, pork and veal.
The heritage pigs are whey fed on pasture and in the woods rotated periodically and kept in by a electric fence. All animals are fed the same grain mix as the cows. [Note: Some beef sold is from retired dairy cows that have received some grain. Check with Barb or Sally for specific information about the beef you will buy.]
Laying hens and Broilers are fed the same soaked grain as the pigs in their movable units on the pasture behind the cows.
We are not certified organic but use organic and biodynamic practices. We use herbs, homeopathics, whole nutrients, and balanced diets for each animal with fresh air to prevent and cure the health of all the animals on our farm.
All farm products are sold in the farm's delightful country store, along with high quality Maryland crafts.
We are located in Southern Prince Georges County, Maryland about 45 minutes south of downtown DC. On farm store is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11-6 or by appointment. Check our website for the Farmers Markets we attend.
Tours of the beautiful farm, held every Saturday at 11am. (or by appointment), are a true learning experience in holistic pasture and livestock management. We also have classes for all ages. Owners are Sally Fallon Morell and Geoffrey Morell, founders of the Weston A Price Foundation.

Rappahannock
Natural Foods Cooperative provides "Rappahannock Real-real
food from real farmers."
The RNF Coop is a small farmers’ coop
formed with the idea of allowing customers in the Washington DC area
to shop at one reliable source for all their local and natural farm
products. We stand behind our products as being locally produced
and humanely processed in a local slaughter house.
The RNF Coop enables customers to shop for beef,
lamb, pork, goat, chicken, eggs, produce and fruit all
in one convenient place—either in our Sperryville, VA. farm
store or on the web. Through the Coop, you can buy from the member
farm of your choice and your purchases will be delivered to you
on a weekly basis at your home or a convenient drop off point.
To accommodate different tastes, we offer a
variety of products, from certified organic to plain and natural.
But whatever the diet, you will find it specified in the farm section.
And it is all local. (Note: In addition to their grass fed beef and
lamb, the Coop also offers beef and lamb which had a supplemental
diet of grain, but still roamed around freely in the pasture. These
products are clearly labeled both at their farm store and online.)
Our members are mostly small farmers from Rappahannock
and surrounding counties. Their families have been farming the land
for untold generations, some going back as early as the 1700s. All raise
their livestock in a humane and natural way without the use of hormones
or unnecessary antibiotics. They grow their produce and fruits without
unnecessary and harmful pesticides. Cows roam freely in green pastures,
chickens scratch for grubs and seeds around the barn, pigs stroll
outside or roll in the mud as they please, and lambs dart around
in the clover.
To ensure that our products are what we say they
are, the Coop visits and inspects each of its members’ farms
on a regular basis. We have one non-farming board member from the
city who represents our customers and helps us to better understand
our customers’ needs.

of grasses, legumes, and forbes
• Healthy, tender grass-fed beef

True Ewe Farm is a small, seasonal, grass-based
sheep farm located in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains,
about an hour outside of Washington, DC. We produce natural, grassfed lamb and
(coming in 2008) artisan farmstead sheep's milk cheeses.
We are dedicated to following sustainable and
humane agricultural practices to produce high quality foods from
Virginia's fine mountain meadow grasses.
Our lamb is tender, full of flavor and healthy
for you. All our lambs are raised on the farm’s pasture salad – a
local blend of native herbs, clover and grasses. They receive no
antibiotics or growth-promoting hormones, and you never have to worry
about animal byproducts in their diet.
We employ intensive rotational grazing, which
allows us to fulfill the sheep's natural desire to graze on the freshest
feed possible and to naturally fertilize the land.
We lamb once a year, so the supply is limited.
Currently, we sell only whole lambs and half lambs. Intimidated by
buying that much lamb? Don't be. Check out the “FAQ” section
on our web site.
We invite you to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
